Offensive Members

We are constantly dealing with members who are downright mean and offensive. Angry and bitter at the world. A member gets a virtual kiss from a member of the same sex, and not being gay, emails the support staff, angry and accusing the support staff of it being our fault.

Hey sometimes people send VK’s to the members of the same sex just seeing what will happen and not worrying if the person is gay or straight. sometimes it’s a scammer that got by us in the first place just trying to make sme sort of contact with anyone in order to try to scam money. what ever the situation is, be careful. Be they scammers or angry people, just be careful.

We have a small staff here, and sometimes it really can get to a person the offensive emails and abusive language. We’ve be the longest running HIV+ dating service around, for more than 13 years. People email us hoping we go bankrupt, or something terrible happens to us and sometimes they attack us personally. Most of the time we just say thank you and move on. We’ve had to let one employee go for responding in a manner that, while we understand why he did it, we still couldn’t have them on here anymore.

We started out as an HIV+ Dating service for heterosexuals only, when we first started. Then the gay community started asking if they could post ads on here as well, and at first we weren’t sure what to do. We decided that anyone who is HIV+ or has AIDS is allowed to post here and we changed the verbage. Now this is just a dating service for HIV+ Individuals. One customer either misread the email we sent them, or they were just another angry person, but they responded with an email saying they were tired of how gays were treated as second class and this and that. We had to try to tell this person they probably read the email wrong. Eventually we had to ask this person to go to another dating site as he was just causing trouble for the support staff.

Either way, just be careful out there with whom you choose to date. You just never know who you are going to meet, and meet in a public place.

Online Dating: Ask the Right Questions First

OK. So you’ve joined an online dating service and written an awesome profile. You’ve uploaded a great picture and now you’ve gotten a few emails, and you’re getting ready to respond. But what now? How do you start weeding through those responses who have real potential and those who would be a waste of time?

You need to find out about who this strange person really is and not what they want you to believe they are. It would be great if people wore labels like “Gold Digger”, “Daddy’s girl” or “Scam Artist” etc., but they don’t. So it’s up to you to find out these things and you can’t just ask direct questions. You need to know what mistakes you can avoid making and how to impress this person if you decide you want to do that.

After you get past the initial small talk, ask them “What are the biggest mistakes guys/girls make when dating online?” Listen carefully to the answers. Their going to tell you a lot about themselves and their views in general, probably more than you asked for, but you will find out a lot.

Next you should ask them, “What do you really think about online dating?” Now they will usually tell you if they’ve had any bad experiences with dating online and help you to avoid making the same mistakes as previous dates.

Now for the all-important question, ”What caused the break up in your last relationship?” If he/she puts all the blame on the other person, you should probably move on to the next prospect. If he/she takes all the blame him or herself, you should probably do the same. If he/she says the breakup was by mutual consent or that the relationship just wasn’t right for either of them, you’ve heard the right answer. Move forward but always with caution.

People who Place All the Blame, may not be willing or capable of looking at themselves or their part in the situation. So you would be dating someone who “Has no faults” or is clueless about themselves or having an open and honest mind. People who Take All the Blame can have low self esteem issues and probably don’t see the situation for the way it really was, and probably have a distorted sense of self.

Asking the right questions will give you insight, possibly open your own eyes and make you more confident when you meet the person for the first time.

Quality Dating Profiles and Quality People

We’ve stated before that the quality of the profiles written on our site was going to be going up. It’s funny how people don’t read the fine print. When someone registers for this site they receive an email with the guidelines for quality and profiles.

We get an occasional email from an angry person because we didn’t post their profile that said “will do later” or some other short non descriptive couple of words. We also get an occasional email from someone who appreciates what we do for them. Appreciative of the fact that we are even here for people with HIV to date and find others to communicate with.

We received this angry email the other day:

“it doesnt matter what you think my profile should be its the way it is and that it, if you dont like then fuckin cancel the mofo either way I could careless”

No we didn’t edit it. After asking this person if they minded if we deleted his account we got another angry email saying:

“I wouldnt give a fuck if your ass your site is a joke to begin with have a nice life”

No not edited either.

We received this email the same day:

“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to meet online”

It’s amazing how just a little kindness, a few kind words, can make all the difference in the world, can lighten the heaviest of loads and make a persons day.

Next time someone opens a door for you, look them straight in the eyes and say thank you, and Mean It.

You know the one that will attract lots of attention and reel in the man of your dreams, but the question is where do you start? A man who hates cats or is allergic to them is definitely not the guy for you.

Accent on the things that make you unique, make sure you stand out and apart from others. If you play the piano and it’s something important to you, then you really want Mr. Right to appreciate it and not complain about “the noise”, right? If you run marathons, then a couch potato is something you eat on the couch and not something you date, definitely not a good match. If you’re into art, you don’t want a guy who thinks Picasso is a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor.

Describe the things that are important to you in your life. If volunteering is the something that makes you feel about yourself, you would want someone who at the very least supports you if not joins you in your volunteer projects. When you get beyond superficial things, you will attract others who share your values.

You can also invest in your online profile by hiring a professional photographer for your first online picture. This is so important. The picture is the FIRST thing a man see’s. The second thing is what you have written about yourself. Some online dating services even provide you with a list of photographers in your area that specialize in online dating site photos.

Profiles with Pictures get way way more responses than ones without right?

But some of you don’t want the world to know you’re HIV Positive right?

The answer to this is to make your pictures private or at least have one picture up to draw in prospective friends, and then give them the password to your password protected private images.

You can even use a picture of just your torso or a non-descriptive photo of your profile.

You can upload your images and make them private in your members area where you would normally upload images.

We hope this helps you to get more responses, than you would without a photo.

Dating Site Tips – Employee Email Privacy

One thing that never ceases to amaze us here at www.hivpoz.net is when people use their work email address on an HIV Positive Dating Site. Occasionally we send out Newsletters to inform people of a special discount or news about the site or something relevant to the site. We occasionally get an auto response from someone’s email address saying they are “out of the office” or “on vacations and will return in X Days or weeks”.

Then they return to work and find that someone was checking their email while they were away and find that someone has looked at or opened their email newsletter from an “HIV Positive Dating Site”. How smart is that? Then we get a nasty email from said person about anonymity this and that, when it was they who should have thought about the consequences of their actions.

I am an IT Consultant, and I consistently tell people in the workplace, “If you don’t want something to e seen or read, do not use your personal email at work. Why? Because the place of employment may have in place monitoring systems that record email addresses, passwords and other things.

I used to be a full time employee of a place that I was the head of the IT department. We did have in place a monitoring system that recorded passwords and email addresses. We also had a policy and employees had to sign it and understand that if they check their email at work it is subject to monitoring. Nothing was private at work and we did find several things employee’s were doing that we fired them for. Employee beware.

The fact that you use a work email address for an HIV Positive dating site is one thing, but the real situation here is the fact that you used a company email address for a Dating Site. It really doesn’t matter that it’s for people who are HIV Positive, it’s more of you were on the internet, on a dating site,w hen you should have been working. Not exactly what the company had in mind for your use of time. Right?

There are plenty of free email sites that you can get an email address from, hotmail, google, yahoo and many others. Take a moment and get yourself one to insure your privacy and anonymity.

Increasing number of bad profiles

As I have stated in the past, that the standards of thsi site are drastically going up. When we find someone who has filled out their profile with “will fill out later” or any number of gibberish letters such as “jjjjjjjjjj”,”arfjkdjkwljerkljwlekr” or whatever, their profile either will be deleted automatically or declined and they will have a chance to refill it out.

HIV Dating Sites are already a target for Nigerian scammers so why make things worse by having crappy profiles to boot? we refuse to let this happen to this site. Aside from being The Best HIV Dating Site on the internet, we are also the most policed of all the sites that can be found.

We have many members who are actually paid by us to intercept and root out scammers as well as the competition who sign up just to send emails to other members and tell them to come look at their profile on xyzdatingsite.com. Come on people, we all know that trick, and it’s no working.

Here at www.hivpoz.net we pride ourselves on how much we police the site for scammers. So much so that we installed a “Report Spam” link in everyones email. It’s on the left side of the email if you are reading an open email. All you do is click the link and it sends the senders email address, profile name and email to the administrators of this site for investigation. We love catching scammers and spammers and banning their subset of IP addresses from this whole site.

It seems lately their have not been many scammers on because we catch most if not all of them. This is through the help of all the members of the site. We really appreciate this.
