The Truth About Dating For People With HIV

If there is one thing that all people diagnosed with HIV share in common, it’s a bleak outlook on their future chances of finding love. Times have changed, however, and what was extremely anxiety-inducing 20 years ago has improved by leaps and bounds in recent times. The truth nowadays is that there is no real reason to be alone.

While not everyone is into the online dating game, it is a very appealing option when diagnosed with HIV. The inevitable feelings of shame, an unwillingness to face humiliation, and the sense of being the only one in your situation are seriously alleviated.

How Is Online Dating for People with HIV Better?
The best thing about HIV-related dating sites is that the most terrifying dating prospect – that of having to disclose your HIV status – is over with when you have completed your profile. Since it’s out there for everyone, conversations that occur within these dating sites tend to center around the much more interesting and dynamic aspects of peoples’ personalities, rather than a condition.

Discretion and HIV Dating Sites
Now, just because you have willingly disclosed your HIV status does not mean that you are willing to post a photo; many aren’t and won’t. This is perfectly fine, as the more sophisticated sites have taken this into account and allow you to attach images in messages to specific members with whom you already have a level of comfort.

The Problem with HIV Dating Sites
There are a dozen or so dating sites online that cater to HIV singles, but most have not taken the time to promote themselves, so there is usually a small and inactive member base. This, of course, severely hampers your ability to find a mate, especially if you live in a small to medium-sized city.

One of the very few exceptions to the ‘ghost town’ standard of HIV dating sites online is called HIVPOZ.NET It has a very large database of active HIV singles, and has really gained in popularity in the last couple of years. It is free to sign up so that you can take a look around at potential matches in your city without having to pay for membership. I spend a good deal of time there, and highly recommend it.

Offensive Members

We are constantly dealing with members who are downright mean and offensive. Angry and bitter at the world. A member gets a virtual kiss from a member of the same sex, and not being gay, emails the support staff, angry and accusing the support staff of it being our fault.

Hey sometimes people send VK’s to the members of the same sex just seeing what will happen and not worrying if the person is gay or straight. sometimes it’s a scammer that got by us in the first place just trying to make sme sort of contact with anyone in order to try to scam money. what ever the situation is, be careful. Be they scammers or angry people, just be careful.

We have a small staff here, and sometimes it really can get to a person the offensive emails and abusive language. We’ve be the longest running HIV+ dating service around, for more than 13 years. People email us hoping we go bankrupt, or something terrible happens to us and sometimes they attack us personally. Most of the time we just say thank you and move on. We’ve had to let one employee go for responding in a manner that, while we understand why he did it, we still couldn’t have them on here anymore.

We started out as an HIV+ Dating service for heterosexuals only, when we first started. Then the gay community started asking if they could post ads on here as well, and at first we weren’t sure what to do. We decided that anyone who is HIV+ or has AIDS is allowed to post here and we changed the verbage. Now this is just a dating service for HIV+ Individuals. One customer either misread the email we sent them, or they were just another angry person, but they responded with an email saying they were tired of how gays were treated as second class and this and that. We had to try to tell this person they probably read the email wrong. Eventually we had to ask this person to go to another dating site as he was just causing trouble for the support staff.

Either way, just be careful out there with whom you choose to date. You just never know who you are going to meet, and meet in a public place.

Increasing number of bad profiles

As I have stated in the past, that the standards of thsi site are drastically going up. When we find someone who has filled out their profile with “will fill out later” or any number of gibberish letters such as “jjjjjjjjjj”,”arfjkdjkwljerkljwlekr” or whatever, their profile either will be deleted automatically or declined and they will have a chance to refill it out.

HIV Dating Sites are already a target for Nigerian scammers so why make things worse by having crappy profiles to boot? we refuse to let this happen to this site. Aside from being The Best HIV Dating Site on the internet, we are also the most policed of all the sites that can be found.

We have many members who are actually paid by us to intercept and root out scammers as well as the competition who sign up just to send emails to other members and tell them to come look at their profile on xyzdatingsite.com. Come on people, we all know that trick, and it’s no working.

Here at www.hivpoz.net we pride ourselves on how much we police the site for scammers. So much so that we installed a “Report Spam” link in everyones email. It’s on the left side of the email if you are reading an open email. All you do is click the link and it sends the senders email address, profile name and email to the administrators of this site for investigation. We love catching scammers and spammers and banning their subset of IP addresses from this whole site.

It seems lately their have not been many scammers on because we catch most if not all of them. This is through the help of all the members of the site. We really appreciate this.

Dating Profile standards are going up.

In an effort to make this one of, if not THE top HIV Positive Dating Site, we have decided that from now on all profiles must be filled out with a description of more than “will fill this out later”. Many times thats what people will do and will never get around to really doing it.

Here at www.hivpoz.net we feel that in order to have a quality site you have to have quality profiles. This includes profiles that are filled out with a good description. Not only is it a waste of time for us and people looking at profiles, but it is a waste of time for the person who created the profile. Why, because no one is going to email the person without a description, and they just wasted however many minutes making the profile, only to be declined.

Quality Positive Singles are what we strive to have here at www.hivpoz.net, and Quality Positive Singles is what we will have. An aside, with the presence of spammers and scammers on many dating sites we are constantly policing the site for scammers. If you receive an email from a suspected scammer please report them to us, by using the “Report Spam” link inside of your email inbox.

I’ve decided to put a blog here for updates and just general rambling. I’ve been running this site for 13+ years now. Well not this exact URL, but i started the worlds first HIV+ dating site, 13 years ago. It was born of a broken heart and the fact that there was no dating services for HIV+ individuals. I think there were some or something for the gay community, but there was nothing for the heterosexual community. So that what I did, I started the worlds first HIV+ Heterosexual dating service.

After a while people started asking me if they could be on it who were gay. At first I balked, but then in asking why the person replied there was no dating site for HIV+ Gay people either. That’s when I said OK, I make it all sexual preferences. I exclude no one. That’s when things went big. I realized there was a need for the whole HIV+ community, and that’s were I decided this would be my personal labor of love. This HIV+ dating Site, for HIV Positive Singles.

At first I hand coded the website, adn people used to email their profiles and pictures directly to me, and then I found the beauty of CGI, and I made it almost automatic. I didn’t figure out how to upload and attach a picture but people could come and put up a profile, and I didn’t need to be there to do it. It was automatic.

I soon realized there were these things called Nigerian Scammers. Yeah boy, was I surprised but I guess we were all virgins at one time or another right? I had someone email me, yelling at me, saying that I owed him several hundreds of dollars because someone he met on my site scammed him out of money. Basically a scammer got a hold of him, told him she loved him and needed money to come fly to him. He unwittingly sent it. And never heard from her again.

That was my first experience with a scammer or someone who had been scammed. and to him I am sorry, but it is not my responsibility to make sure you don’t send someone on the net money. I have however placed FAQs and other useful information pages up and a page specifically about scammers and spammers.

Ok I need to do soem work on the site and get some excercise in today. I will be posting a new one later.
